Repatriation Services
Losing a loved one away from home can exacerbate an already stressful time.
Particularly when it occurs overseas, where unfamiliar languages, local expectations and customs can be overwhelming for family members.
Our funeral directors specialise in planning and organising interstate and international repatriation. We regularly interact with families and communities from diverse walks of life and we take pride in our sensitivity and respect for cultural diversity.
How may we be of assistance?
Our qualified team actively engages with both the family and necessary government departments to address their requirements, ensuring that the funeral repatriation service is executed promptly. This involves coordinating with Health Authorities, Customs, Insurance, Foreign Consulates and securing translators for documents if needed.
Repatriation to another country
Each country has different requirements surrounding documentation and regulations when it comes to receiving a deceased person’s remains. However, if your loved one dies in Australia you will need an Australian funeral director to register their death and organise their repatriation. At TJ Andrews, our compassionate funeral directors are very experienced and will take care of every step with great care and efficiency.
The repatriation process to another country involves the following steps.
Step 1:
After the funeral director has received your loved one’s body, they will be embalmed and a bio-seal will be put in place. If embalming is not allowed by their religion, their body will be cremated.
Step 2:
Flights are booked to a person’s homeland.
Step 3:
The deceased’s passport will need to be cancelled with their home country’s embassy or consulate; however, it must be kept with the body.
Step 4:
TJ Andrews will register the death and apply for a death certificate.
It is a requirement that original death certificates and a person’s passport travel with them when they are repatriated.
Step 5:
We must have confirmation of who is collecting the body at the destination, along with their address and phone number.
