TJ Andrews has been caring for families and arranging funerals in Sydney and Melbourne since 1895. The founder, Thomas James Andrews, commenced the business in Newtown, initially using horse-drawn hearses prior to replacing horses with motor vehicles in 1923. A peculiar story about his son and successor, James Oswald, was that he once owned a boat on the harbor called, namely Swerdna, Andrews spelt backwards. It was a source of enjoyment and recreation by his family until it was claimed for the war effort. His daughter, Vera, married a Melbourne funeral director, Rob Allison, during the World War II. When serving in the military, Rob was able to get enough leave to make a return journey to Sydney by train. He proposed over the phone and they got married the next day. TJ Andrews continues to be a 100% Australian family owned business. Our arrangers can meet you at your home to discuss any funeral arrangements.
